The Church Council is the governing body of the congregation. It coordinates the programs and activities of the various departments and/or organizations of the congregation. It prepares a financial budget for approval of the congregation. It regularly reviews budget status.
The Church Council consists of the President, Vice-President, Recording Secretary, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, President of the L.W.M.L., and the Chairpersons of the Boards of Elders, Finance, Church Property, Christian Education, Stewardship, Youth Ministry, Christian Fellowship, Early Childhood Ministry, Senior Ministry, Technology and Church Growth. The Pastor, Recording Secretary, Financial Secretary, and President of the L.W.M.L. are non-voting members.
Positions and Boards
The President is the Executive Director of the program. He presides at Voters Council meetings and ensures that the management and control of the congregation is in accordance with the constitution and by-laws.
The Vice-President presides at meetings of Voters or Church Council in the absence of the President. He assists the President as required.
The Board of Elders gives assistance to the Pastor in the spiritual care of the congregation, including administration of Sacraments. The Board Supervises everything pertaining to congregational worship. Each Elder serves the congregation as the leader of one of the Fellowship Groups.
The Board of Finance is composed of the Chairperson, Treasurer, Vice- Treasurer and Financial Secretary. They supervise control of cash flow of the congregation, aid Boards in preparing budgets and oversee disbursements in connection with payroll, insurance, mortgage, supplies and equipment, office inventory, copy machine and supplies. The Board supplies financial reports to the Council.
The Board of Church Property administers and maintains the property of the congregation, and the heating, air conditioning, and electrical systems.
The Board of Christian Education supervises all activities involving education in Christian doctrine and principles. The Pastor currently serves as Chairman of this Board.
The Board of Church Growth leads the congregation in programs to win unbelievers for Christ and promote membership to prospective members.
The Board of Stewardship, as “Stewards” or “Managers” in the congregation, is concerned with the overall program of the congregation as it affects growth in Christian living and giving.
The Board of Early Childhood Ministry directs the activities of the Early Childhood Ministry (Shepherd’s Little Flock [SLF]), ensuring Christian teaching and nurturing of students in concert with the Board of Christian Education.
The Board of Youth Ministry conducts and supervises all activities and programs for the youth of the congregation in concert with the Board of Christian Education.
The Board of Christian Fellowship coordinates and supervises activities intended to nurture Christian fellowship within the congregation.
The Board of Senior Ministry establishes, coordinates and oversees activities intended to (1) enhance the lives of seniors in the congregation and (2) reach out to ‘unchurched’ and ‘underchurched’ seniors in the Cumberland County area as appropriate.
The Board of Technology manages and coordinates all technology systems of the church, including those of SLF. Technology systems include computers and software, internet connectivity, security systems, telecommunications systems, audio-video systems, and any other similar systems that the church may acquire.
