The prophet Isaiah foretells God’s deliverance of the faithful (Isaiah 9:1-4), a thought not unlike that of David some 300 years before as he refers to the Lord as one who would “hide” him “in his shelter” (Psalm 27:1-9). In 1 Corinthians 1:10-18, the apostle Paul addresses the divisions of the church intended to be united in Christ. In Matthew’s Gospel (4:12-25), Jesus begins his ministry with the urgent cry to “Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand” (v.17).
