The prophet Isaiah calls for acts of piety that give evidence of their sincerity (Isaiah 58:3-9a). In Psalm 112:1-9, the writer also makes a distinction between the righteous and the unrighteous “Blessed is the man who fears the Lord” (v. 2). In Paul’s letter to the Corinthians (1 Corinthians 2:1-12), the apostle writes about Christ crucified as the Savior carried humankind’s sin to the cross. In Matthew 5:13-20, the believer is reminded that (s)he is “the light of the world” (v. 14). In all four references, the Christian is urged to live a life that displays evidence of belief/faith.
