In Isaiah 11:1-10 the prophet anticipates the coming of the Messiah; it is a passage that portends reconciliation (the wolf shall dwell with the lamb). Psalm 72 is a prayer that expresses hope in a future of righteous kings. Paul repeats themes of anticipation and hope in his letter to the Romans (15:4-13). In Matthew 3:1-12, the evangelist describes John the Baptist’s urgency as the missionary cries out to the people to repent, as the long-expected Christ has come!
